Howland Crossing and Economic Growth
Why all the machinery off Howland Blvd on the north end of town? After many years of planning and negotiating, the
Deltona City Commission has approved the purchase of land to accommodate Fire Station 65, the long overdue and much needed Fire Station for the residents of District 2.
Planned is a three bay Fire Station that will exit directly onto Howland Boulevard. This new station will dramatically improve response times for the northeastern part of town. With staff already hired, the department is ready for their new house.
The Developers for Howland Crossing have set goals of attracting companies like Panera Bread, larger buffet restaurants and a steak house franchise along with needed of-fice space and small neighborhood retail shops.
Howland Crossing will also house the future Deltona Safety Complex. This center will bring needed space for future city growth and will also become the new location for Volusia County Sheriff’s Department’s Deltona sub-station. Currently the Sheriff’s sub-station is located in the Winn-Dixie Plaza off Deltona Blvd., in space the City of Deltona is currently renting.
Part of the Safety Complex will house the EOC (Emergency Operation Center) that has been on the drawing board for the past six years, city planners searched for the perfect location that could accommodate not only current city needs but future growth.
